Updated Standings, Most Runs, Most Wickets After PAK vs SA Match 26

ICC World Cup Points Table 2023: Updated Standings, Most Runs, Most Wickets After PAK vs SA match: South Africa, on Friday (October 27), beat Pakistan by 1 wicket to register their fifth win in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. Chasing 271, they crossed the finishing line in the 48th over.

Quinton de Kock gave his team a quick start by hitting a flurry of boundaries but failed to score big. Shaheen Afridi sent him back for 24. Temba Bavuma (28) and Rassie van der Dussen (21) also got the starts but could not convert. And after Heinrich Klaasen (12) also failed with the bat, South Africa found themselves 4 down for 136.

But Aiden Markram (91) held firm from one end to keep his team on track. He shared a crucial 70-run stand with David Miller for the fifth wicket to steady the ship. Marco Jansen then played a 20-run cameo before he and a well-set Markram departed in quick time to leave the Proteas 7 down for 250 from 235 for 5. They lost two more wickets before Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi shared an unbeaten 11-run stand to take their team home.

Earlier in the game, fifties from captain Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel propelled Pakistan to 270 runs. For South Africa, left-arm spinner Tabraiz Shamsi was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4 for 60 off his 10 overs while left-arm pacer Marco Jansen picked up 3 wickets.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Pakistan made a poor start with the bat. Their openers – Abdullah Shafique (9) and Imam-ul-Haq (12) – were back in the hut with just 38 runs on the board.  Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed also could not do much with the bat either and departed after scoring 31 and 21 respectively.

Babar went on to complete his third fifty of the competition but once again failed to convert, leaving his side reeling at 141 for 5. At that stage, even the 250-run mark was looking unlikely. However, Saud Shakeel (52) and Shadab Khan (43) shared a quick stand of 84 runs to put Pakistan on course for a good total before a collapse saw them getting all out for 270 from 225 for 5.
