Sanju Samson Reminds Indian Selectors Of His Potential After Smashing Consecutive Half-Centuries In Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023

Talented wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson, who faced exclusion from the ICC World Cup 2023 squad, made an impact with the bat. Sanju Samson has notched up his second consecutive half-century for the Kerala team in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Sanju Samson failed to make it into India’s 15-member squad for the World Cup, despite having a strong record in the 50-over format. The right-handed batter scored 390 runs in 13 ODIs at an impressive average of 55.71 and a strike rate of 104, with a best score of 86 runs.

Sanju Samson Smashes His Second Consecutive Half-Century

Sanju Samson demonstrated his batting prowess in the T20 match between Kerala and Odisha at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday, October 25. Batting at number 4, Samson scored 55 runs off 31 deliveries, including four boundaries and four sixes.

The 28-year-old helped the team reach a formidable total of 183/4 in their 20 overs. The batter achieved his second consecutive half-century in India’s domestic T20 competition. Varun Nayanar (48) and Vishnu Vinod (35) also contributed crucial runs to the team.

The Kerala skipper delivered a good performance against Chandigarh, scoring 52 off 32 balls, including 4 fours and 3 sixes. He played a significant role as Kerala secured a 7-run victory. He didn’t have an opportunity to bat in the subsequent match against Sikkim.

It Is A Tough Phase For Sanju Samson – Saba Karim

Former Indian cricketer Saba Karim acknowledged that Samson is currently facing a challenging phase in his career. Karim expressed his concerns about Samson’s consistency and believes the selectors haven’t given him a long run in international cricket.

“It is a tough phase for Sanju Samson. Let us admit that first, because now it seems in the pecking order you have KL Rahul, then you have Ishan Kishan, and then comes Samson. It’s also the way he looks at his future in international cricket. Does he look at himself as a wicketkeeper-batter or does he think of himself as a batter? The kind of potential he has, everybody knows he is so gifted,” Karim said.

“At times, there has been some kind of question mark over his consistency. Having said that, I do believe that he hasn’t got a long rope from the selectors due to different circumstances,” he added.
