PAK vs AFG: Watch – Babar Azam Fumes At His Teammate For Overthrow

Pakistan captain Babar Azam wasn’t happy with his team’s fielding performance in the ICC World Cup 2023 against Afghanistan. The skipper fumed at his teammate Usama Mir for doing the overthrow at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Pakistan were extremely sloppy on the field during the game against Afghanistan. They did a lot of misfields but one during the fag end of the innings left captain Babar Azam fuming. It was during the third ball of 45th over the game when Shaheen Afridi was bowling.

Shaheen Afridi bowled a full delivery to which Hashmatullah Shahidi played towards mid-off for a quick single. The fielder Usama Mir threw the ball but there was no need for it. There wasn’t any backup as the ball went back and the players took one extra run.

Babar Azam didn’t like it as he was furious at the team’s effort. He gave an angry reaction and here’s the video of the incident.

Coming to the game, Pakistan suffered an 8-wicket thrashing at the hands of Afghanistan in Chennai. The Men in Green posted 282 runs on account of Babar Azam’s 74-run knock and it seemed that they would win comfortably. But the opposition batted extremely and chased their highest total.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65) and Ibrahim Zadran (87)  added 130 runs for the opening stand and made sure that their side got the platform to chase the target. After their staggering start, Rahmat Shah (77*) and Hashmatullah Shahidi (48*) batted well to take the team home.

PAK vs AFG: This hurts us – Babar Azam after Pakistan’s Loss To Afghanistan

Babar Azam talked about the loss Pakistan faced against Afghanistan. He admitted that it would hurt them and admitted that they weren’t up to the mark. He added that they would try their best in the next game and would look to make a comeback. Speaking at the post-match presentation, he explained:

“This hurts us. We had a good total. In the bowling, we weren’t up to the mark as we are not taking wickets in the middle overs. If you are not good in even one department, then you’ll lose the game. We didn’t stop boundaries and gave away runs, that cost us. Bowling – we started well, in the middle overs, we needed wickets but we couldn’t take any.

“All credit to Afghanistan the way they played in all three departments. That’s why they won. We are not playing good cricket in bowling and fielding. We’ll try our best in the next match. We didn’t hit the lengths in the middle overs, especially our spinners. We couldn’t put pressure on the batters.”

Pakistan will next be seen in action when they take on South Africa on Friday (27th October).
