Dasun Shanaka Ruled Out Of World Cup, SLC Name Replacement

In what is an enormous blow to the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team, captain and all-rounder Dasun Shanaka has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

The news of the 32-year-old getting injured and ruled out of the competition came on October 14, two days before Sri Lanka’s next World Cup clash against Australia National Cricket Team on Monday, October 16 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.

Dasun Shanaka picked up a quad injury during the match against Pakistan on Tuesday. Later, the scans revealed that he would be sidelined for a minimum of three weeks, confirmed SLC.

Ahead of the competition, there were talks about Shanaka being sacked as captain and being dropped from the squad altogether due to his poor form with bat and ball. However, it didn’t happen and the selectors showed faith in his leadership skills.

Under the leadership of Shanaka, the Lankan Lions lost their first two matches of the World Cup 2023. They first faced a crushing defeat by 102 runs against South Africa and then in their second game, they let Pakistan chase down 345 runs.
