Afghanistan Playing 11 vs England– ICC World Cup 2023, Match 13

Afghanistan takes on England in match 13 of the ICC World Cup 2023 in Delhi. The match starts from 2 pm IST as the Afghans are looking for their first World Cup win since 2019.

Afghanistan started this campaign with back to back losses against Bangladesh and India. They had a good opportunity to win the match against Bangladesh but played below-par cricket. Against India, they were blown away by Rohit Sharma’s breathtaking century.

Ibrahim Zadran will open the batting with Gurbaz. He was dismissed for 22 against Bangladesh. The Afghans are dependent on their openers to give them a good start and hence both Zadran and Gurbaz need to take their time. He is 56 runs short of 1000 ODI runs.

Rahmat Shah

Rahmat Shah will bat at three. He scored 18 in the match against Bangladesh. Against India, he scored just 16. He will be playing his 100th ODI for Afghanistan on Sunday. He is among the experienced players in the side.

Shahidi will lead the side. He scored 80 off 88 balls against India and held fort at one end. However, he needs to rotate the strike and bat deep for his side. He will also need to be a lot more proactive as a skipper.

The southpaw will slot in at five. He along with Mohammad Nabi are experienced middle-order batter. Zadran has played 92 ODIs and 94 T20Is for Afghanistan scoring close to 5000 international runs. He scored just two against India.

Nabi will slot in at six. The experienced all-rounder needs to take responsibility with both bat and ball to guide Afghanistan to victory in the World Cup. He will be playing his 150th ODI. This is his third World Cup for Afghanistan. He scored 19 off 27 balls against India.

Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan should bat at number seven. He scored just nine against Bangladesh. Against India, he scored 16 off 12 balls and took two for 57 with the ball. He is Afghanistan’s top wicket-taker in ODIs with 174 wickets from 96 ODIs.

Azmatullah Omarzai

Omarzai can bat at eight. He is a lower-order all-rounder for Afghanistan. He batted at number five and scored 62 off 69 balls and added a century stand with his captain. He scored 22 off 20 balls against Bangladesh and bowled just two overs.

Farooqi will lead the pace attack with the ball. He is Afghanistan’s most dependable seamer. He took 1 for 29 in five overs against Bangladesh. Against India, he went for 50 off his six overs.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman

Mujeeb will be the third specialist spinner in the Afghanistan playing XI. He went wicketless against Bangladesh and India He is seven short of 100 ODI wickets. Mujeeb and Rashid will be key bowlers against England.
