Why Afghanistan Players Are Wearing Black Armbands In Today’s Match Against India

The 9th match of the ICC World Cup 2023 is taking place between India and Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side won the toss and opted to bat first, on what has been a bright sunny day.

As Afghanistan players stepped on the field, many noticed the black armbands that they wore and wondered why the team was wearing it. The reason behind it has finally been revealed.

The Hashmatullah Shahidi-led have worn the bands to pay their respect to the recent victims of the earthquake, that occurred in their country. Almost 2400 people lost their lives in the disaster that happened.

Afghanistan didn’t have a great start to the ICC World Cup 2023 as they suffered a thrashing loss against Bangladesh. They didn’t bat well as they were bundled out for just 156 runs. The Hashmatullah Shahidi-led would be hoping to make a strong comeback in the match against India.

They kickstarted their innings on high as Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran (22) played some glorious strokes. The latter however lost his wicket to a peach by Jasprit Bumrah. They would now be hoping to set in and provide a great platform for others to set up a big total.
