Netherlands’ Roelof Van Der Merwe Takes A Brilliant Diving Catch To Send Mark Chapman Packing In ICC World Cup 2023

Roelof van der Merwe stole the spotlight with his brilliant fielding in the ongoing 6th match of ICC World Cup 2023 between New Zealand and Netherlands. The Dutch side have pulled things back at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad after the Kiwis had a blistering start with the bat. 

New Zealand, after being put into bat first, were off the flier as Devon Conway (32), Will Young (70), Rachin Ravindra (51) and Daryl Mitchell (48) played staggeringly well and put Netherlands under pressure. It looked like the Black Caps would end up with a gigantic score but that didn’t happen. 

Netherlands pulled the things back very well and picked wickets in clusters. Of all the wickets, the scalp of Mark Chapman caught the attention of many as it saw a staggering effort being put in by the Roelof van der Merwe. The Dutch fielder took a stupendous catch. 

It happened during the 45th over when Aryan Dutt bowled a tossed-up delivery that was on stumps. Mark Chapman attempted an inside-out shot but he played straight up in the air and Roelof van der Merwe ran from a backward point had his eyes on the ball and gobbled it with two hands.

Mark Chapman ended with the knock of just 5 runs off 13 balls. He couldn’t really get going as Aryan Dutt bowled beautifully well. His wicket left New Zealand at 264 for six.

After the magnificent batting by the top four of New Zealand, skipper Tom Latham despite wickets falling at the other end made sure that his side didn’t lose momentum. The southpaw batted well and brought up his half-century at a crucial stage. He ended with the knock of 53 runs. 

Mitchell Santner in the end made sure that New Zealand went past 300 runs against the Netherlands. The all-rounder struck some lusty blows in the end and remained unbeaten at 36 runs off just 17 balls.

His innings powered his side to a total of 322 runs. For the Netherlands Roelof van der picked two wickets whereas Paul van Meekeren and Aryan Dutt also bagged two wickets each.
